John Harrold took over the illustrating of the Rupert character as Alex CUBIE had retired,and who'd illustrated the previous annuals from 1974 until 1978.John Harrold was born in Glasgow, 1947,and studied art there at the Glasgow School of Art situated in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh building. His first job as a Rupert illustrator was on 'Fun to Cook with Rupert' (drawn in 1973, published 1974).The editor,Frederick Chaplain was impressed and invited him to work for the Daily Express.His first story,Rupert and the Worried Elves,began on 14 October 1976,and in the same year he produced games pages for the annuals.Up to now (then 1997),has been illustrating the little bear's adventures for longer than Mary Tourtel,and those children who were brought up on his first adventures are now
mature adults.1993 was the year that Gina Hart, was employed as a Rupert colourist,and this is her first work.It was also the year that John HARROLD designed the first Rupert stamps which were published/released in Guernsey.

A really,really exceptional example,it is only the minor faults mentioned that would prevent it being described as Near MINT.It is that exceptional and the best I've seen and handled.
